Empty

I opened my heart to you
But you weren't ready for me
So I left a piece of it behind
And took the rest
Home
Empty

— Excerpt from Just As Heavy

Gravity

She’s a feral horse
her mane whipped wild in the wind
petals shaken loose from her crown
her breath tore out in ragged bursts

Hooves pounded the dirt
leaving a trail of dust
obliterating the path behind
until nothing remained but haze

No horizon, only air—
and gravity waiting
with open arms
suspended for half a second before…

The magnitude
of what she’s done
catches up to her

She’s going to leave a crater
when she hits ground
